Meet Sara

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I invite you to learn more about me and the perspectives that inform my work.

Social Work

I am a licensed clinical social worker and social work values are at the core of my work - advocating for social justice, respecting the dignity and worth of each person, and understanding the interconnections between individuals and larger systems.

Trauma Lens

I am a trauma therapist and believe that traumatic experiences often lie at the root of mental and physical health issues. Trauma, at its core, is any event or series of events that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. Trauma responses, everything from dissociation to hyper-vigilance, are strategies to try and manage these overwhelming experiences. From a trauma perspective, healing requires establishing safety, learning to regulate emotional responses, making healthier choices, understanding how past experiences influence present-day thoughts and behaviors, finding community, and creating new more empowering narratives.

Identity

As a neurodivergent queer woman of European descent, my identity influences the ways in which I experience the world, both in terms of my perspective and how others respond to me. Our identities can be a source of strength. Unfortunately, many experiences and identities have been stigmatized for not conforming to heteropatriarchal, white supremacist, neurotypical, capitalist norms. Understanding the impacts of oppression can also open up possibilities for reclamation and resistance.
